Visualizing election results

This month I voted for president in Brazil and for mayor and council in Vancouver, and I still have an election coming up in British Columbia. As soon as the results come out, I analyze them to understand the patterns and satisfy my curiosity. Introducing Election Viz ↗︎.

For the Brazil election, I wanted to understand the votes cast outside the country: how people like me vote. This idea came from a post by @zannandra. In short, they say that people who have left the country tend to vote like the country they now live in. That is not based on ideology but on their own experience. I couldn't find a good way to visualize this, so I built my own with Claude Opus 5.5.

I also built a visualization for the Vancouver election. The goal was to show how strong the rejection of incumbents was in specific areas of the city. The results are in, but the breakdown by voting area is not available yet. I will keep an eye on it and update the visualization when it is published.
